EDITING PART 2
EDITING OUR FILM
The long dreaded- I mean awaited moment has finally come! Piecing together the clips we worked oh so hard to film. We encountered a lot of issues in trying to send each other the clips, (there was a lot of footage!) so all editing was completed on Nicole's computer. This simplified things because everything was filmed on her camera and it was an easy (at least easier) transfer between two of her personal devices.
For our editing, we used iMovie.
It was a very complicated process to get editing done. Sarah and I were out of town for almost the entirety of spring break, and we were all quite busy in the week when we got back. Even this weekend wasn't free time to get things done as Nicole was out of town on a JROTC trip and Sarah and I attended Gradbash. Then, when editing finally began, Nicole's computer started giving her issues, but there was no way to send anyone else the clips as we had been trying to do it for the past two weeks without success.
Here's Nicole, beginning the editing process on her JROTC trip. It started out a little rocky, with around 5 minutes of footage to sort through. Nicole omitted a lot of clips, and many were shortened.
The three of us sat on FaceTime the night of April 3rd, collaborating and making decisions for the editing.
One prominent issue we ran into was that when adding sound to the movie, any other added sound would become muted. Because of this, we weren't able to make the muffled background music for the opening scene as realistic as possible. And, some clips weren't showing up, just a strip of blue being presented instead.
We had also had to forgo a lot of cool features we wanted to add in because of lack of time and resources. For example, the match cut with sound we wanted to create had to be forgotten since my mom was unavailable to film the audio clip and we don't have anyone with the voice we wanted for the knocking on the door portion of the opening scene. Also, what we wanted to do with the opening credits with the paper having credit information on it was removed because there was no time to insert that clip and we don't have the editing software needed to edit words onto a real, moving paper and make it look good/realistic.
All I can say is, this was a strenuous process, and I don't even know the half of it. Though I did sit there and help with decision making, choosing times to cut, and whatnot, Nicole really made the editing happen, and I'm extremely grateful to her. We're all very glad to be done with editing, and can't wait to show you the final results.
