DESIGNING THE POSTER
"BE A STAR"
The most important prop of our movie is the poster. This poster is the link between past Juliet and future Juliet, the one who is normal and suffocated, and the one who cries in the dressing room, prepping for her big moment where she is allowed to showcase her true self.
The poster was designed by Nicole on Canva, an application where you can make just about any form of media. She selected a pre-made poster layout, then began inserting pictures, shapes and words to make it our own.
She drew inspiration from Juliet's outfit in the opening scene, her color palette pink, black, and white. The pink scribbles are sort of imitative of the black and white zebra stripes on Juliet's shirt in the very first scene. All text is one of the three aforementioned colors.
The inclusion of the phrase, "Be a star", was essential for the poster. It ties together our movie title to the show in which Juliet is preparing to perform. To further create this tie, Nicole added little black stars scattered across the poster to get the point across even without reading the information on it.
The information at the bottom, though seemingly random... is actually totally random. So don't go calling that number or trying to visit that school that doesn't exist! The school name, "Evergreen", is of course a slight twist on our actual school's name. Everything else though was typed in without a level of significance. The real important parts of the poster that should be focused on is the event, which is emphasized by its big text in a circle.
I printed the poster since I had a color printer easily accessible to me in my home. I think we were smart to wait to design the poster, because now we were able to match the poster to the vibe of the first scene, a really helpful tool for the audience, who doesn't know everything we do that went on behind the scenes.
Hope you enjoyed reading about the details that went into creating our poster, bye!
