ASSESSMENT IN RETROSPECT

THINGS I MIGHT'VE CHANGED

MYSTERIOUS TICKING NOISE

Something I noticed while watching our clip was that at the start of some of our scenes, you can hear a slight clicking noise, which I assume is the clicking of the camera to begin filming. What we could've done to prevent this is click record, then give the camera a little grace period before acting began. This is commonplace in a lot of TV and film, because it can always be edited out later.

IDEAS THAT DIDN'T MAKE THE CUT

I was super excited to incorporate a match cut in our film opener going from the dressing room scene to the bedroom scene, specifically the audial one. We were going to have a backstage person yelling that Juliet had 5 minutes till showtime, which would transition into her mother telling her to wake up. However, we couldn't exercise this because of time constraints and the limits of iMovie's sound insertion feature. I think it would've made the transition to a different time much clearer and just be very impressive overall.

Something else that I thought was a brilliant idea was to have the credits included within real props in the film, rather than a text overlay. I had ideas for them to be on posters, on a sheet of paper that was in Juliet's bag, etc. I think these are just very clever and could have added to the individuality and creativity of our film.

INSERT TIME CHANGE HERE

Because of some omitted ideas that I mentioned before, I don't think it's clear enough that there is a gap in time between the first and second scenes. The first one is supposed to be a flash forward, and the rest of the movie would be the time leading up to and after it. To make this more obvious, I think we maybe could have incorporated a piece of text saying something like "5 months ago" once we reach Juliet's bedroom.

SETTING SHOTS

While I think we do a good job of establishing location in the film through both props and just environmental mis-en-scene, I think we could have embellished this more if we had taken some establishing shots of locations, such as a recording of the outside of the school from afar, and then maybe some of the items within it, like the "exit" sign idea that Sarah had presented when we were beginning the project. If we had spent less time getting very plot-heavy footage, I think we would have been able to add this, but we were a bit too focused on getting the character along in time for us to put in the final shot of the poster.

Of course there is always room for more critique regarding a creative project, or really a project of any kind, but I'll be saving that for my upcoming CCR. Can't wait to share more with y'all!
