THIRD DAY OF FILMING

 "FROM HERE TO HOLLYWOOD"

Day three of filming was March 21st at about 4:30 PM. I have to say, it was really fun! I think forgetting about our stresses since it was spring break really helped us out with just letting our creativity flow.

One of the first things I should mention, we have a new actor on set! Juliet's mom is now played by none other than Virginia Wall, my mom! Sarah's mom was unavailable at the time we scheduled filming, so we conducted a little recast and my mom is now playing the supporting character of our movie. I have to say, she did a great job and I'm super grateful to her for doing this for us during her free time.

This is my mom doing her makeup to get ready for filming in front of Nicole's house. We did our best to match her clothes to the blog post we did on clothing. Though slightly different, we were able to at least stay on theme with the brown/neutral colors. Her smile tells you how excited she was for her big acting debut!

We made our way into Nicole's house and started preparing a meal for the very brief breakfast scene we would be shooting soon. We wanted to make something "extravagant" to mimic the coming of age movie trope where characters usually have a seven course meal in front of them and only take one bite before declaring they're going to be late and leave.

Then, filming commenced! We added a clip of Juliet walking to the kitchen from her bedroom as to not just have so much unclear jumping around from place to place. We figured out angles and I helped with lighting, as per usual, by opening the blinds.

For the breakfast scene, my mom finally started acting and she did really well! I shouted out pointers like a real director as Nicole filmed the varying clips. I really like this scene because of how naturalistic it is in the sense of the mis en scene. Nicole's house is super cute and this little movie family fit right into it.

Things got a little tricky when we started filming the car ride scene. Getting in the car was fine and dandy, but recording Juliet and her mom while driving proved to be a challenge. Eventually, though, we solved the problem and were able to place the camera in a position that was stationary enough to get a bit of footage (before totally falling to the ground).

We also filmed an additional few clips of Juliet getting out of the car to go to school, using a local elementary school that didn't have their gates locked. It was spring break, so our school, Everglades, was fully shut down. I even ended up playing an extra!

There was one part we weren't able to film because we were missing the poster we have to make and we needed to enter the school to shoot it. We'll be filming it shortly after spring break/vacations. My mom drove us to Starbucks after we finished filming for a celebratory drink. A big thank you to her!
