SECOND DAY OF FILMING

 STAR TAKE 2: ACTION!

Day 2 of filming is complete! This took place on March 10th at 4:00 PM. After school, we headed to Nicole's house and began filming the getting ready scene.

From our last time filming, this is definitely a change in location, but we deemed it necessary because it would distinguish our two locations (the dressing room vs. Juliet's house) for our audience who might assume the two are the same if we use the same set.

In this photo you can see a clip we filmed last time pictured on the screen of Nicole's camera. We were looking at our last shot so that we could create a match cut (on action) that synced well. This time though, it would be Juliet getting out of bed rather than sitting in the dressing room. Finding the right amount of zoom and positioning wasn't too difficult, and I think we managed well enough, though only editing will tell!

Here's Sarah in full costume once we figured out what she would be wearing after waking up and getting dressed. It's very similar to how we planned for it to be, a floral white top and jeans, something for which I was very happy about. You can't see in the photo, but she is also wearing white sneakers.

This is Nicole taking a picture of me taking a picture of Sarah. We had the same idea to capture this moment lol. At this point in time we were toying with the curtains to get the right lighting. It was the afternoon, and we wanted to simulate morning, but still have it bright. We let a lot of light in, which I think was the right call. What would come next is Juliet sitting up from her bed and performing her morning routine. We filmed some things a bit off-script for this part, such as Juliet getting dressed (pictured below), which is something I didn't include in the storyboard. We were fearful that we wouldn't have enough filmed to meet our time limit.

For the getting dressed portion of filming, Sarah, obviously, was already fully clothed. To imitate the actions of getting ready, though, we had her button up the pants, fiddle with her shirt, and tie her shoes. Nicole filmed her right in front of the mirror to make it seem as if Juliet was truly looking in her reflection while getting ready, putting the audience in the perspective of the mirror.

When we had Juliet brushing her hair in the mirror, we wanted to record through the mirror, so there was some more angle work that had to be done, similarly to how it was when we filmed the first scene on our first day. Here Sarah is fine tuning the angle, making sure everything is perfect before returning to her role as the shining star.

Taking pictures and being the backseat director is hard work! So here's me taking a well deserved nap. Filming did happen to cut into my usual after school nap time...

We are going to need another day of filming, which is currently scheduled for the first Monday of spring break, March 21st. That is pretty much the only day we can meet for a while because two of us are going on a trip over the break. The plan for this day is to film what's left, being the scenes with Juliet's mom: the ride to school and Juliet entering and encountering the poster.

I'm proud of the progress we made today and I can't wait to finish it off! See you after day 3!
