EDITING PART 1: EDITING AND FILMING UPDATE
WHAT IS EDITING, ANYWAY?
We have actually not yet made it to the editing process. We discussed as a group and decided that we all want to film everything first, then make it to editing. We've been having a hard time with filming dates because of our busy schedules as I've mentioned before.
The current plan is to film again on March 10th at 3:30 PM.
For lack of editing content, I'll tell you this, I am actually a little worried for when we get to editing. I know Sarah and Nicole are excited and probably know what they're doing, but I have no experience so it's a little lost on me. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it, and who knows maybe they can teach me a thing or two.
When we get to editing, my role will probably be more in the background, overseeing editing and working with my team to see how to tie in our cuts with the storyboard, and what changes will have to be made.
In more specifics of editing, I think we're likely going to use iMovie or something of the sort since we all have Apple computers. The software we use doesn't need to be anything fancy because we're only editing minimal things: cropping clips, lining them up, and adding text. I presume Nicole will be taking a leading role over editing since she has the most experience with it due to being very involved with photography for yearbook at our school. Sarah wants to be a part of the process also because she thinks it'll be fun to see the film come together. I personally think I'm better on the writing side of things, which is why I took over when we were scripting and storyboarding, though I will be there for editing because we will need to make decisions, during which my input will be important.
Our first few cuts in the scene with Sarah (or for movie purposes, Juliet) will be plain old cuts, but when we transition to the bedroom scene, we want to do a match cut of her sitting down, so we're gonna have to link that up right to make the match as seamless as possible. Another thing we're going to edit in is actually kind of scary to me, but its the title credits. We need to add in the names of the cast and crew. The idea we have for it is to incorporate the names within objects Juliet uses as she is getting ready, though some might have to be changed in the way that they were presented on the initial story board. Lining up real, filmed objects with unmoving, typed words might prove a bit difficult. I hope it ends up looking good either way, even if it's not the most professional job ever. More of the "fun" editing should take place with the bedroom and school scenes, as we're going to try and make it very coming of age, getting ready montage. We talked about adding jump cuts to show the progression of time in Juliet's morning routine, something not previously involved in the storyboard.
Whatever we do, I know I'll be proud of it. Thanks for reading and see you next time with the second day of filming!
