SOUND STORY
SOUND STORY EXPERIENCE
Another day, another blog.
This time we're talking about sound.
To be more specific, in class we created a story, but strictly through usage of sound. My group was the same as last time, big thank you to Nicole and Sarah for working with me on it.
Here it is, take a good listen and see if you can figure out the situation that’s happening.
So, if you couldn’t tell, which I highly doubt, it was the commute of a regular person trying to get to work, but they end up in a car accident.
In the beginning of the project, Nicole got the idea and we all felt kind of inspired and went with it.
We brainstormed how we would create these sounds, because we obviously can’t purposefully crash a car just for this assignment. I carry my keys with me to school every day, and they make a very generic key sound, so those were pretty much set to be our jangling keys. Sarah’s shoes had the best quality walking sound for the story we wanted to tell, so she stomped around and recorded the noise. Nicole offered to utilize the sounds of her car for the engine turning on, music, and seatbelt parts of the audio. She also went a step further and included audio of her pleading and yelling for help in the aftermath of the “accident”.
Editing was confusing at first because iMovie was making it very difficult to put audio clips on top of each other, or layering, which is like the pinnacle aspect of this project. Somehow though after trying the same thing to no avail, it almost magically worked and we were able to produce the full audio you now hear. Our sound story was also approximately equal parts audio found online to audio recorded ourselves, so it was a bit easier to import half of the audio from online into the story.
Below is our process of filming our own sounds.
