MOOD BOARD GENRE STUDY

MOOD BOARD OF FANTASY

Hello again! Yet another assignment has been assigned. This time we were asked to create a mood board for a made-up movie under a specific genre that interests us. Unsurprisingly, I chose the genre of fantasy.

The fantasy genre is known for its boundless creativity, which gives movie-makers a lot of space to kind of do whatever they want. There aren't many prerequisites in the genre because of how much wiggle room there is, but a hint of magic and otherworldliness usually do the trick.

The fantasy genre is so interesting to me because it always produces the most beautiful pictures. It is also incredible to know that these ideas came entirely from someone's imagination. There is undeniable beauty in escapism, which I turn to more often than not. Most film and literature that I become involved with has a fantasy aspect to it, so it only makes sense that I make some myself.

A quick google search informed me of the common components of a fantasy film, and I quickly got to work. Scouring the internet far and wide, I found myself faced with so many potential photos. Drawing broad inspiration from the movie Maleficent (2014) directed by Robert Stromberg, I searched for forest imagery, specifically focusing on greenery. I wanted a very specific type of grass, and that type of grass I did find. It's long and stringy, but so full of life.

I'm actually quite proud of my final product. The mood board presents exactly what I imagined it would when I began it. I played around with the broad ideas of forestry and medieval times. I considered including an aspect of fairies or something magical, but figured it was best to keep it simple and green. My favorite part of it is probably how many settings are depicted. It felt like a movie was unraveling under my fingertips when I was putting this together.
